Alberta Primitive Skills Society and COVID-19

We are working on ways to maintain connections with all those in the many primitive skills communities. We are encouraging everyone to maintain social distancing and follow safety standards during this time. We recognize that it can be hard to keep up with all the changes as well as to keep spirits up. This is why we are recommending that you stay connected with friends and family by phone, email, video conferencing (Skype or Zoom are a few good options), etc. Stay connected and stay safe, thank you for helping keep our province and country safe.

A Special Thank You

Here at Alberta Primitive Skills we want to extend a thank you to all those who work in essential services. Thank you to all the nurses and doctors for all your hard work, thank you to those who work in grocery stores, gas stations, delivery persons, and so many others who are risking their health to keep our country running. Thank you all for your time and care, stay safe and my you be blessed.

2020 Primitive Meet

With the new changes and social distancing procedures many camps have decided to close their doors and access to there facilities. Camp Teepee Pole has decided to close their property this year in order to help keep everyone safe. Unfortunately this means that Alberta Primitive Skills Society's 2020 event is going to be canceled until further notice. We will be posting updates through the summer on any further changes. Thank you for your understanding and for doing your part to help keep everyone safe.

Some Ideas to Keep you Busy

Here are a few ideas that can help pass the time, just please remember to follow safety regulations and maintain social distancing. We hope that these activities bring you lots of fun and joyful times. Stay safe and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.
  • Building a bow is a nice was to stay busy and makes a long term project
  • Practice your camp or survival fire building skills, this is both handy and fun (especially when the end result is you getting to roast smokies and marshmallows)
  • Making natural cordage is also a fun and yet fairly simple activity
  • Now that summer is just around the corner gathering natural edibles such as tea, berries, and mushrooms (please use causion when gathering mushrooms) is also a lovely way to pass the time and stay healthy
